      William McKendree Snyder: The First to Come

      Celebrate Artists Colony Weekend with a private collection exhibit of this turn of the century Southern Indiana artist’s work. William McKendree Snyder was an American painter active in Indiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries best known for detailed Indiana landscapes. He was one of the first artists to explore Brown County and often sketched during his visits, making him a forerunner of the Brown County Art Colony.

      Snyder was born in Liberty, Indiana in 1848. His earliest painting is dated 1865 and his latest 1927. Snyder was living in Columbus, Indiana from 1870-1872 when he ventured into Brown County.

      There will be an opening reception and a program by Rachel Perry on Friday, September 11.

      Monday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sundays 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
